Check out five activities you can do with the whole family this weekend in Evanston.

Didn’t have time to see The Wiz last weekend? Have no fear. The Wiz will take place Mar. 4 at 7:30 p.m., Mar. 5 at 7:30 p.m., and Mar. 7 at 2 p.m. at the King Lab School Auditorium.  Adult general admissions tickets are being sold for $15, while children under 13 can purchase tickets for $10.  Tickets can be purchased online or via phone through the Brillianteen Ticket Hotline at 847-475-7400 ext. 277. This is your last opportunity to see Brillianteen’s 60th annual production of The Wiz, a classic fairy-tale recreation of the Wonderful Wizard of Oz with rock music.

If you forgot to bring your kids to this dance show last weekend, you’re in luck.  Northwestern student dancers are at it again with an original performance fusing jump rhythm jazz, ballet, modern dance and contemporary dance forms together.  The show is scheduled for Mar. 3, 4 and 5 at 8 p.m., and Mar. 7 at 2 p.m.  Tickets are being sold for $20 to the general public, and $10 to Northwestern students.

If you’re looking to spend some time at the Mitchell Museum of the American Indian this weekend but haven’t found a babysitter yet, you’re in luck.  Every Saturday morning from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m., the museum hosts arts and crafts for children age four and up. While children learn about the Native American culture through crafts projects, parents can walk around the museum. Admission into the museum is $2.50 for children, students, and senior citizens and $5 for adults.

Speedskating Competition

Take your children to the Robert Crown Community Center and Ice Complex Mar. 6 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. for a speedskating competition that is sure to excite the whole family.  Hosted by the Evanston Speedskating Club, the competition will feature skaters of all ages, ranging from the Tiny Tots race (children age 6 and under) to the Masters race (adults age 30 and over).  The best part about this event is that admission is free.  Have a fun day with the family free of charge!

March Weekend Family Films

In the wintertime, there’s no better family activity than a classic movie.  This Saturday at the Main Evanston Public Library from 2 to 3:30 p.m. the library will be showing the timeless "Space Jam." The movie is open to the public and will be shown in the Barbara Friedburg Storytelling Room on the first floor of the Main Library.
