High Bacteria Levels Reported at Evanston Beaches

Two local beaches are among the worst in the area.

A report from the Natural Resources Defense Council shows that Evanston beaches reported high bacteria levels in 2010, including high E.coli counts.

The Evanston Review reported that water samples are taken twice each day from the six Evanston beaches controlled by the city’s department of parks and recreation to monitor bacteria levels.

In 2010, the South Boulevard beach was closed for 22 days because E.coli counts exceeded the national standard.
