Local Shell Station Gives Away Free Gas

The 'Protect Your Engine' Gasoline Giveaway event drew a mile-long line of cars.

The Shell station at 2494 Oakton drew a mile-long line of cars Friday as it gave away free gas from 7-9 a.m.

FOX Chicago reported that the station gave out about $21,000 in free gas, and customers were allowed to get up to 20 gallons. When the event ended, however, cars who were still waiting for their free fill-up were turned away.

A video on the FOX site shows a line of cars waiting for free gas. Meanwhile, some residents took to Ald. Ann Rainey's 8th Ward Message Board to complain about the noise from the helicopter news coverage of the event.
