Matthew Dubose is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cardereon Preister, 21, who was shot in the 1700 block of Leland Avenue Sept. 10. “Preister’s death is believed to be in retaliation for a previous meeting that took place over the summer between Dubose and the victim to exchange drugs and money, for a firearm that the victim had,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott said in a press release. “The exchange went awry between the two, which in turn lead to the murder of Preister several weeks later.”
A group hoping to start the first Montessori high school in the Chicago area is looking at downtown Evanston for a fall 2014 opening. Jeff Bell, founding head of school for Beacon Academy, recently submitted a request to the city for a special use permit to open the school at 622 Davis St. In order to fund the opening, the Beacon Academy board is also seeking financial support from the city.
