Evanston Man, 18, Charged With Murder Of Cardereon Preister

Matthew Dubose is charged with first-degree murder in the death of Cardereon Preister, 21, who was shot in the 1700 block of Leland Avenue Sept. 10. “Preister’s death is believed to be in retaliation for a previous meeting that took place over the summer between Dubose and the victim to exchange drugs and money, for a firearm that the victim had,” Evanston Police Cmdr. Jason Parrott said in a press release. “The exchange went awry between the two, which in turn lead to the murder of Preister several weeks later.” 

Montessori High School Eyes Downtown Evanston

A group hoping to start the first Montessori high school in the Chicago area is looking at downtown Evanston for a fall 2014 opening. Jeff Bell, founding head of school for Beacon Academy, recently submitted a request to the city for a special use permit to open the school at 622 Davis St. In order to fund the opening, the Beacon Academy board is also seeking financial support from the city.

Even basic repairs are up in the air as city officials debate the future of the Harley Clarke Mansion. The 86-year-old lakefront property at 2603 Sheridan Rd. needs $170,000 in safety repairs, according to city manager Wally Bobkiewicz, who presented a report to members of the human services committee Monday night
