Patch Picks: Staycation Activities for Spring Break

Our weekly list of what's hot in Evanston.

It may not look or feel like it, but spring is here. And you know what that means: it's time for spring break.

Maybe you're jetting off to spend your spring break on a nice beach somewhere (send us a postcard!), but if you're sticking around town we have some ideas for fun things to do. Do you know of something great that we're missing? Tell us in the comments!

Beach season is just around the corner, so if you're still stressing about your extra winter weight now is the time to hit the gym. The McGaw YMCA has tons of cheap drop-in classes that are open to the community.

2. Have a Picnic

If it ever stops raining (or snowing!), Evanston's parks are just starting to see an increase in activity, and it's never too early in the season to enjoy a picnic. Stock up at a local supermarket or grab some pre-made dishes from Foodstuffs.

3. See a Movie During the Day

The Century Evanston 12 theater is quiet and relaxing on weekdays and you'll likely get your choice of any seat in the whole place. Plus, we've heard that "Rango" is pretty good!

4. Visit the B'hai Temple

It's just across the border in Wilmette, and it's gorgeous. You've driven past it a million times, but how often have you parked your car to get a look up close?

5. Ride a Bike Along Sheridan Road

Pull your bike out of the basement, brush the dust off, and get riding! Sheridan road is a perfect place to start, especially in the middle of the day when there's light traffic. Don't forget your helmet!
