Storm Clean-Up and Cooling Center Updates

From the city of Evanston:

ComEd reports that as of this afternoon, 4,500 Evanston ComEd customers remain without power. ComEd has at least five crews of their own and some out of state crews restoring power in Evanston. City officials are in regular contact with ComEd officials and will update residents as new information becomes available.

Residents without power are encouraged to register their power outage with ComEd’s toll-free number so they can get updates directly from ComEd – 1-800-EDISON1 (1-800-334-7661) or at www.comed.com. If the loss of power in your home or business requires emergency medical or police assistance, please call 9-1-1.

Important Notice for Residents with Damage to Power Service that is not Part of the ComEd System

The document here>>>is for property owners whose power line is down between their building and the ComEd system. When trees cause this type of damage, the risers and weather head that attaches the ComEd service line to the electric meter is frequently damaged. This part of the system is the property owner’s responsibility to repair, but they generally don’t know that and ComEd won’t fix it. These individual power outages are generally the last items to be restored, and the residents don’t want to be in a situation where ComEd finally comes to restore power but can’t because the property owner has not fixed their equipment. Cooling Centers

Because it will take ComEd multiple days to restore power to all Evanston residents and due to the high temperatures, the City of Evanston will make available to the public the use of its community centers, libraries and the Morton Civic Center. All city facilities have air-conditioning, power and many have WiFi connections. Robert Crown Center will remain open until midnight. No pets are allowed except service animals.

Tree Branch Pick-up

City crews will soon begin picking up fallen branches. Residents are requested to place all branches in the parkway. Also, due to the quantity of downed trees and branches it will take city crews about a week to pick it all up.

Residents are encouraged to call 3-1-1 to report downed trees, road hazards or for other information.
