Unicycle Lessons From an 11-Year-Old

11-year-old Charlie Blackburn explains how to ride a unicycle.

Charlie Blackburn, 11, says riding a unicycle is easy. You just put one foot on the pedal, press down, and use the force of your body to propel the other foot onto the unicycle and start riding.

Patch talked to Blackburn outside the Noyes Cultural Art Center Monday, where he and several other kids were learning to ride unicycles at an Actor's Gymnasium summer camp.

Blackburn, who starts sixth grade at Haven Middle School this fall, says he's been participating in Actor's Gymnasium camps for the past six years. Asked whether he wants to be an actor when he grows up, Blackburn says he doesn't "have a life goal right now."

Then he revises his statement.

"My life goal for now is to get 50 laps around the basketball court," he says, then puts one foot down on the unicycle and takes off.
