What to Do in Evanston This Weekend

Looking for something to do in Evanston this weekend? We've put together a list of events, including a gluten-free dinner, various concerts and a garden walk.

Company Presents The Gandhi of Gluten Free: A Night at the Beau K. Bistro

June 28-29, 7:00 p.m., Company, 1307 Chicago Ave., $85 BYOW or $105 Wine Pairings will be served w/ each course.  

Company will be hosting a 100% gluten-free dinner on Friday and Saturday nights prepared by Chef William Blackburn. The menu will include bruschetta, crab salad, ribs or a beef filet, grapefruit sorbet and chocolate sobayon.

Downtown Evanston Farmers' Market

June 29, 7:30 a.m. - 1:00 p.m., Every Saturday through Nov. 2, University Place and Oak Ave.
Shop for fresh items, such as fruit, vegetables, meat, cheese, eggs, baked goods and flowers, at Evanston's Farmers' Market. As many as 51 vendors will be selling their products.

The Freeway Revival + Poor Man's Cow

June 29, 9 p.m., Doors 8 p.m., 27 Live, 1012-1014 Church St,
$5 Advance, $8 Door

The Freeway Revival, a North Carolina band, will perform music derived from American classics such as rock, blues, jazz and country. Poor Man’s Cow, The Freeway Revival’s opener, is a band of Evanston locals who play funky-Americana, country, bluegrass and rock.

Evanston Gun Buyback Event

June 29, 12 p.m.- 4 p.m., Pope John XXIII School Cafeteria (St. Nicholas Church), 1120 Washington St.

The city of Evanston and several community organizations are sponsoring a gun buyback on Saturday. Evanston residents are invited to exchange up to two unloaded guns for $100 per gun. Police will not take action as a result of someone turning in a firearm. For more information, visit the City of Evanston

Michael Mulcahy, trombone

June 30, 3 p.m., 60 Arts Circle Dr.

Trombonist Michael Mulcahy will perform Sunday with Yoko Yamada-Selvaggio on the piano. Mulcahy is a trombonist in the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and has played for Cologne Radio, Melbourne, and Tasmanian Symphonies. He is also a member of Chicago Chamber Musicians and Summit Brass. 

24th Annual Evanston Garden Walk

June 30, 12 p.m. – 5 p.m, Advance purchase tickets: $15 for KEB or EEA members, $20 for non-members; the day of the Walk, tickets: $20 members, $25 non-members. Children: free

Support the Evanston Evironmental Association in a walk through 10 of Evanston’s most beautiful gardens, nine private and one public. 

Tickets for the Walk are available at the Evanston Ecology Center, 2024 McCormick Blvd. and nurseries and flower shops in the area. For all locations, go to www.evanstonenvironment.org/‎. 

Strollers cannot be accommodated.

Frank Vignola Concert

Renowned American jazz guitarist Frank Vignola will play a concert at Evanston’s S.P.A.C.E. on Sunday night.

Anne Hills Concert

June 30, 2 p.m, Doors 1 p.m., S.P.A.C.E., 1245 Chicago Ave., $15 General Admission, $25 Reserved seating

American folk singer-songwriter Anne Hills will perform at Evanston’s S.P.A.C.E. on Sunday afternoon.
