What To Do On Labor Day Weekend in Evanston

Getting ready for the long weekend? Patch has rounded up a list of events and activities in the area, including International Bacon Day, the end of beach season in Evanston and lots of live music.

Labor Day means cool weather is on its way and school will soon be in session. The long weekend is also a good time to celebrate the last gasp of summer. Here's a list of events in Evanston and around the north suburbs to help you plan your holiday.

International Bacon Day at Wiener and Still Champion
If just the mention of bacon has you salivating, head over to for International Bacon Day Saturday, Sept. 1. Country fried bacon, bacon dogs, BLT dipping sauce, burgers filled with bacon and more are on the menu.

Monday is the Last Day to Hit the Beach
Take advantage of the warm weather forecasters are predicting and visit the beach. Monday marks the end of the swimming season at Evanston beaches.

Muse of Fire Theatre company performs Julius Caesar at 3 p.m. Saturday and Sunday in . Actors wear modern dress while performing Shakespeare's play about corruption and political power. Free.

Thunderbirds, Brendan James at S.P.A.C.E.

Jimmy Buffet Tribute Show
Parrots of the Carribean, a tribute to the man behind "Margaritaville" goes on at Friday - Sunday, Aug. 31 - Sept. 3, at Gorrilla Tango Theatre in Skokie. $25.

Art Fair on the Square in Lake Forest
The Deerpath Art League hosts its 58th annual outdoor, juried fine art show from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 2, and Monday, Sept. 3, in Market Square in downtown Lake Forest.

Chicago Jazz Festival
Head into Chicago for four days of live jazz music at the Chicago Cultural Center, in Grant Park and in Millenium Park. Big names include Diana Reeves and Allen Toussaint. Free.

Oktoberfest in Lakeview
Hear live music and drink beer and brats at historic St. Alphonsus Church in Lakeview. $5 admission.
