Celebrate Earth Day / Arbor Day with the Evanston Ecology Center!

We have fun activities planned all day to show Earth appreciation. So, get your family or your friends together and bike over to the Ecology Center to learn more!

From 10 a.m. to noon, lend a hand in the Ladd Arboretum and help remove all things invasive; from garlic mustard to candy wrappers, our goal is to make the Arboretum a better place!

Take a lunch break and then join us from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. for the festivities; we’ll have live music from local musicians, and fun things for the whole family! Adults can check out rain barrels and composting bins while kids can learn about local animals and plant some seedlings! The whole family will learn simple techniques to reduce their carbon footprint and become more environmentally friendly!

After the celebration, join the Garden Council of Evanston and city staff from 4 p.m. to 5 p.m. for some “Tea for Trees.” Topics include; parkway trees, the parkway tree replacement program and the Emerald Ash Borer and other invasive species that threaten Evanston’s trees and learn ways that you can help our Tree City! This event is FREE!

The Active Transportation Alliance will be on hand to give bike check-ups, helmet adjustments and to give information out about environmentally friendly alternate forms of transportation. So, get your family or your friends together and bike over to the Ecology Center to learn more!

Additionally, representatives from the Citizens Utility Board will be there to explain and help residents sign-up for Evanston's Big 7 Employers Challenge to Save Energy with CUBenergysaver.com. The program challenges ComEd customers to join teams to recruit the most members or save the most energy - members of the two winning teams will be entered into a drawing to win one year of free electricity. Stop by with your current ComEd bill and/or online log-in information to learn how to sign-up or simply stop by to learn more- you will get a free Compact Florescent Light bulb for your efforts!

Informational stations will be set up to help guide you to a smaller environmental footprint. Call 847/448-8256 for more information.
