EPL to Host Summer Reading Stop Open House at Evanston Plaza June 20

The Evanston Public Library invites the public to help us kickoff another season of Summer Reading Stop fun. Check out our bigger, more welcoming space. The Open House will be held from 4 – 7 p.m. on Monday, June 20th at 1900 Dempster St. (in the old Washington Mutual site next to the Subway shop). Aldermen Delores Holmes and Peter Braithwaite will be on hand as well.

Festivities will include:

  • 4:00 p.m. Storytime with local celebrities (including Alderman Peter Braithwaite)
  • 4:30 p.m. Tail Waggin’ Tutors: meet the therapy dogs & sign up to practice reading to a furry, patient listener.
  • 5:30 p.m. Acoustic performance by Evanston duo Tisa Batchelder and Gregg Ostrom
  • 6:00 p.m. Ice Cream for all!

Regular hours are Mondays and Wednesdays 4 pm – 7 pm and Tuesdays and Saturdays 10 am – 1 pm from June 13th - August 13th.

This is the second consecutive year that  the Evanston Public Library has opened a Summer Reading Stop in the Evanston Plaza. The Summer Reading Stop is a Library outpost with computers, books and magazines for everyone.

Stop in to look at books and newspapers, play the Summer Reading Game, and use the internet.

The Summer Reading Stop is staffed by EPL neighborhood services staff, Evanston Public Library Friends and volunteers. The EPL staff and board are actively recruiting local West Evanston volunteers to get the community involved. Information on volunteering at the Stop is available at www.cityofevanston.org/volunteer.
