Evanston Celebrates "Jalisco Week" August 30

The City of Evanston and the Federation of Hometown Associations from the State of Jalisco, Mexico, Fedejal, will celebrate the upcoming Hispanic Heritage Month with a free event in Evanston.  As one of the Illinois stops for “Jalisco Week,” Evanston will be hosting the Mariachi group Mexico Vive; folkloric and contemporary dance troupes; artisans straight from Jalisco; and much more.

Date: Thursday, August 30, 2012
Time: 5:30 p.m. - 9:00 p.m.
Location: Levy Senior Center, 300 Dodge Ave., Evanston, IL 60202

From Sunday,  August 26, to Sunday, September 2, Fedejal will be touring several cities in Illinois to celebrate their culture and traditions in honor of “Jalisco Week,” which commemorates the anniversary of the founding of Fedejal. Other stops on the "Jalisco Week" itinerary include Chicago, Aurora, Cicero, Melrose Park, Round Lake Beach and Joliet. This year will mark the first ever visit to Evanston.

“Fedejal appreciates the work done by the Club Pro Works Juanacatlán to bring 'Jalisco Week' to the city of Evanston,” said Fedejal President Sergio Suarez. "We appreciate the support of the City of Evanston and of course we are grateful to Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl for opening the doors of Evanston to Fedejal. This will be a great opportunity for Evanston residents to live, share and celebrate the cultural traditions of Jalisco and Mexico.”
