Announces 67th Season: A Musical Passport

Evanston, IL — The Evanston Symphony Orchestra’s 67th season – A Musical Passport - will feature four subscription concerts at Pick-Staiger Concert Hall in Evanston conducted by Music Director Lawrence Eckerling . All concerts are on Sunday afternoons at 2:30 PM.

The season opens on October 21, 2012 with a program of Viennese Masterworks, featuring Matthew Hagle in Beethoven’s Piano Concerto No. 4, plus the Overture to Mozart’s The Magic Flute and the Symphony No 2 of Brahms.

 

Irina Muresanu will take the solo in the Dvorak Violin Concerto on March 3, 2013, part of the Slavic Favorites program, which also includes Tchaikovsky’s Fifth Symphony.

 

Music from the English Countryside, on May 5, features the return of local favorite Wendy Warner in Elgar’s Cello Concerto, as well as the Four Sea Interludes from Peter Grimes by Britten and the Symphony No. 5 by Ralph Vaughan Williams.

 

The season finale on June 16, titled From the City of Light to Eternal Rome, will highlight the virtuosity of the entire orchestra in French favorites by Saint-Saens, Dukas, and Debussy plus Respighi’s Roman Festivals. David Schrader will perform the organ solos in both the Respighi piece and the Concerto for Organ, Strings and Timpani by Francis Poulenc.

 

Season subscriptions for the four concerts are now available at $90 for adults, $70 for seniors (62 and over), $20 for full-time students and FREE for children 12 and under when accompanied by an adult. Founded in 1945, the Evanston Symphony was the Illinois Council of Orchestra’s “Orchestra of the Year” in 2010.  The ESO mission is to provide community members of all ages with convenient, affordable opportunities to perform and hear fine classical music from locally, nationally and internationally renowned artists.
