First Friday "ARRRT" Reduce, Reuse, Recycle

Simply Chicago Art goes green for April!  ARRRT (Reduce, Reuse, Recycle) features artwork using objects that would normally have been thrown out, but instead have been turned into beautiful and unique pieces of work. This creative artwork will change what you consider "garbage".  For example...  One artist, Roy Koerner aka "Bananaboy" discovered a fun and unique medium quite by accident.  One day, after eating a banana, he pinned the peel to his office wall (artists never throw anything away). A few days later, he noted that while drying, the peel's form changed, giving it a unique shape and color. Its linear, almost primitive, quality immediately struck the artist and "Banana Art" was born!

Aaron Hunzinger makes custom lamps that are bold, distinctive,stylish...and made out of leftover awning material.  His lamps cast a unique light onto walls and ceilings, and become the centerpieces of any room.  Whether on the floor, table, or ceiling, these lamps demand attention and provide not only light but character and artistic personality to the room. He has created a Chi-Tower lamp over 10 feet tall that will be making it's debut at this opening!

Jim MacRoberts, a wood shop teacher at the Chicago Park District, uses scraps of wood leftover from his classes and fallen tree branches as materials.  He creates novelty hammers and other sculptures and turns ordinary surplus into fascinating artwork!
Come by to see these and more! Along with Roy, Aaron and Jim, there are creations and imaginitive works by our other featured artists: Leny Basa, Carolyn Eby, Katherine Eiff, Julie Whitehead Holdsworth, Doug Kovacs, John LaVere and Sally Norlie. In addition, view our exclusive collection of original jewelry, accessories, cards, and other gifts by local artists throughout the gallery!

These car doors where designed by local artists during our "Trunk Show" 2009, an event where artists sold their work from the trunk of their cars in the adjoining parking lot.  There were artists who wanted to participate and did not have a vehicle, so Bryans Garage in Evanston generously donated two Volvo wagons.  Afterwards, Jessica Q Lucas brought some artists together to create one-of -a-kind murals on the doors!
