Local Spirit of Anne Frank Award recipient/author at book discussion/signing

Local  SPIRIT OF ANNE FRANK Award recipient/author, ANYA CORDELL, tackles "APPEARANCE-ISM", (appearance-based judging of ourselves and others) in a book discussion and signing at 1700 Maple Ave., Evanston, IL 60201 on Saturday, October 2, 2010, 1pm.

RACE: An OPEN & SHUT Case is a small double-sided book, with a big mission, for kids and adults.  It literally "flips" traditional preconceptions about race and appearance-based judgments, upside-down!  Cordell tackles "appearance-ism" in a fresh way, revealing her journey from a beauty and fashion obsessed teen to an award winning anti-bias activist.  She transforms children who tease and those who are teased, and she inspires adults to reevaluate old stereotypes, in a most surprising fashion.

Anya Cordell is the recipient of the 2010 Spirit of Anne Frank Outstanding Citizen Award, bestowed by the Anne Frank Center USA
