National Theatre Live: Frankenstein broadcast

The Theatre and Interpretation Center at Northwestern University is partnering with the National Theatre in London in a groundbreaking initiative to bring the “best of British theatre” to Evanston!  NT Live is broadcasting its highly-praised productions to TIC, offering Chicago and North Shore audiences some of the world’s greatest theatre performances

Oscar-winner Danny Boyle (127 Hours, Slumdog Millionaire) returned to the theatre to direct this visionary production with Benedict Cumberbatch and Jonny Lee Miller.  It will return to cinemas worldwide for a limited season of encore screenings, as Cumberatch and Miller alternate the roles of Victor Frankenstein and the Creature in two electrifying broadcasts.  Childlike in his innocence but grotesque in form, Frankenstein's bewildered creature is cast out into a hostile universe by his horror-struck maker.  Meeting with cruelty wherever he goes, the friendless Creature, increasingly desperate and vengeful, determines to track down his creator and strike a terrifying deal.  Urgent concerns of scientific responsibility, parental neglect, cognitive development and the nature of good and evil are embedded within this thrilling and deeply disturbing classic gothic tale.
