Singer-Songwriter Megon McDonough

Beloved local singer-songwriter Megon McDonough will astound audiences with her heartfelt songs, rich, engaging voice and humorous stories at an upcoming performance on Sunday, Aug. 21 at Space in Evanston.

Over the years, Megon has been acclaimed for her broad vocal abilities, shining in everything from jazz to country to cabaret. In the first half of this concert, Megon will be returning to her roots as a folk singer-songwriter, emoting the purity and clarity that comes from just a girl and a guitar. In the second half, Megon will be showcasing her jazz and cabaret talents with the backing of a piano and bass.

Megon, who lives in Northfield, also plans to highlight the music of several Chicago-area songwriters in her set. In addition to her own original music, Megon will perform songs by John Prine of Maywood, Jim Peterik of Berwyn, Fred Simon of Chicago and others.

About Megon McDonough
Born in Crystal Lake, Ill., to an Irish-Catholic family with nine theatrically-inspired children, Megon McDonough was inspired to play the guitar and sing after watching The Beatles on Ed Sullivan. She wrote her first song at the age of 11.

By the age of 17, she was opening for such folk acts as John Denver, Steve Martin and Harry Chapin. She has performed on stages as diverse as Carnegie Hall and the Cellar Door. Megon is best known for her work as an inaugural member of the folk group The Four Bitchin’ Babes, which allowed her wit and folk sensibilities to comment on the ups and downs of everyday life. To date, Megon has 12 solo albums to her credit, and is best known for her song “Amazing Things.” Megon classifies her music as folk/cabaret, citing her love of theater and jazz as the reason for the unusual mix. Megon lives in Northfield, Ill., and was most recently seen in “Prine: A Tribute Concert” at the Viaduct Theater in Chicago.
