The July 26 Starlight Concert at Brummel Park in Evanston, headlining Andre Williams and the Gold Stars, will kick off with a food truck fest highlighting some of the best food on four wheels in the Chicago area.
The event starts at 5:30 p.m. with food from Evanston’s very own Hummingbird Kitchen along with other culinary treasures from such gastronomic purveyors as TamaleSpaceship, Sweet Ride Chi, Taquero Fusion and 5411 Empanadas. Music runs from 7:30 p.m. to 9 p.m. View links to truck menus here>>>
Headlining the event will be Andre Williams and the Gold Stars. Andre Williams is an R&B legend, and you may not even know it. Nicknamed “Mr. Rhythm” by comedian Redd Foxx, Williams co-wrote "Shake a Tail Feather," and sang such cult classics as "Bacon Fat" (covered by the Cramps), "Greasy Chicken" and “Jail Bait." He worked at seminal labels such as Motown, Chess and Fortune, and wrote songs for or produced Ike Turner, Parliament/Funkadelic, Edwin Starr and Stevie Wonder.
Following an extended stretch of hard times, Williams stormed back in the late ’90s with a string of terrific garage punk records recorded in collaboration with the likes of Jack White, Jon Spencer, The Sadies, Demolition Doll Rods and many others. Now in his mid-70s, the R&B rebel has embarked on frequent tours of Europe and the U.S. in recent years with backing band the Goldstars, bringing his down & dirty brand of rock ‘n’ soul-funk to ever-appreciative new audiences. What’s more, an Andre William show generally features at least one costume change – that can't be said about a lot of folks these days.
