Window Wonderland

Christmas Celebration Window Wonderland on Evanston’s Main Street Dec. 11 On Dec. 11, Evanston’s Main Street business district will be entertaining shoppers with “Window Wonderland” featuring festive holiday activities and store bargains for those shopping Main Street. The defining entertainment will be Piccolo Theatre mimes who pose behind picture frames in store windows.  As people gather to determine if the manikin is real, an abrupt posture change, or a wink, sends the crowd into peals of laughter. Look for window actors at Charter One Bank, Healthy Green Goods, Center for Independent Futures, Ten Thousand Villages, Goods of Evanston, and Vogue Fabrics Other Window Wonderland merriment will include strolling carolers, free refreshments at the Chicago Rare Book Center and the Center for Independent Living, and children’s play activities at Hip Circle Studio, Vogue Fabrics, Healthy Green Goods, and Center for Independent Futures.   Raffle prizes are offered by Rare Book Center, As You Like It Hair Salon, Plain and Simple Furniture, Oceanique Restaurant, Piron Chocolatier, Ten Thousand Villages, Dave’s Rock Shop, Goods of Evanston, Healthy Green Goods, and Vogue Fabrics. Reindeer tracks on the sidewalk will lead shoppers from bargain to bargain and eventually to, yes, Santa Claus himself.  Now in its fourth year, the holiday shopping event is sponsored by the Main Street Station Merchants Association. The shopping district has its crossroads at Main Street and Chicago Avenue and is conveniently accessed by the Metra train and Purple El which have both have Main Street stops.  The Piccolo Theatre company has its residence in the Metra train station, named “The Arts Depot.”
