Andy's 'Jackhammer' Frozen Custard Tastes Like PB & J, Benefits Evanston150

Andy's Frozen Custard debuts the "Evanston150," a cold dessert that tastes like PB & J with a crunch.

Andy's Frozen Custard began serving the "Evanston150" dessert this week, a frozen concoction that commemorates the city's 150th anniversary and helps support the nonprofit Evanston 150.

The community-wide initiative has challenged community members to select and execute ten big ideas to improve Evanston, including swimming lessons for all kids and a year-round farmers market.

The treat is made with Andy's vanilla custard, fresh strawberries, pretzels and a peanut butter "jackhammer," or peanut butter inserted in the center of the dessert. The "Evanston150" will be sold through the end of the year, with a portion of all proceeds going to support Evanston 150

“We’re so pleased that Andy’s has created a unique treat to celebrate the 150th anniversary,” Evanston150 steering committee member and Celebrate!2013 co-chair Lori Osborne said in a press release.  “This creative frozen custard treat is a fitting tribute to Evanston, home of the ice cream sundae.”

Andy's Frozen Custard president Andy Kuntz said his company was proud to support the community, and compared the taste of the Evanston150 to a peanut butter and jelly sandwich--with a crunch.

“This is an extraordinary treat.  I hope it’s a big hit,” he said.
