Brothers K Coffeehouse Opens Second Location

Two of Main Street's favorite eateries will spread their talent as a second Brothers K Coffeehouse location featuring a line of baked goods created by Lucky Platter part-owner and Chef Eric Singer opens this month in Evanston.

Owners and operators John and Brian Kim hope to open the second location at 1549 Sherman Avenue, site of the former Italian Coffee Bar, a few days after the city completes an inspection Sept. 20.

The Brothers K has had a successful five years at the current shop at 500 Main Street. Now the owners will lure customers with coffee and hope to keep them coming back for the line of pastries that Singer's been developing for the shop, said John Kim.

The fresh goods, including the cheese flakey now served at the Lucky Platter, will arrive daily to the store at the corner of Grove and Sherman. Customers will choose items from a display case, and "What they'll receive is a warm baked item," Kim says. The store was equipped with a convention oven and bread warmer for this purpose, he said.

The new location will have fewer menu items, and more limited hours. Initially, the store will open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Kim said. The sibling duo will evaluate the traffic patterns in the area on the weekend to determine weekend store hours, he said.

"The way that we've grown on Main Street is by opening the doors and responding to what customers and the neighborhood wants," Kim said.

Though a mega-franchise is not in sight, the brothers do eventually plan to open a third location, Kim said.
