Demo Underway Inside The Keg

A developer says a new tenant is coming soon to replace the Keg at 810 Grove St. The popular college bar closed for good this March.

Demolition is underway inside the former Keg of Evanston, and the property's developer says he expects to have a new tenant lined up in the next month or so.

"It's going to be part of this general trend of good things happening in Evanston," says Evan Oliff, president of Preferred Development

Oliff said his company does not own the building, but is working on behalf of the building's owner to manage the property at 810 Grove St. He said he expects to sign a lease with a new tenant soon to replace the popular college bar, which closed this March after the property owner declined to renew its lease.

While he could not give specifics on what might move in to replace the Keg, Oliff said his company has developed several commercial properties in Chicago's Bucktown, Lincoln Park and Southport neighborhoods, as well as 44 Walgreens.

"I convert underperforming properties into stuff people want to go to," Oliff said.
