Dollop Cafe, Hoosier Mama Pie Consider Evanston Location

Chicago coffee shop Dollop and Hoosier Mama Pie Company are considered a combination cafe and pie shop in the new AMLI apartment building going up at 631-749 Chicago Ave. in Evanston.

Chicago coffee shop Dollop and bakery Hoosier Mama Pie Company could be coming soon to Chicago Avenue in Evanston.

Dollop owner Dan Weiss has submitted an application to the city's site plan appearance and review committee for a cafe at 749 Chicago Ave., in the new AMLI high-rise apartment building.

While details are still being worked out in terms of the lease and partnership arrangement, Weiss said he hopes to open a hybrid coffee bar and pie shop in the new building.

"I'm super excited about the possibility," said Weiss, who owns three other Dollop coffee shops in the Chicago neighborhoods of Buena Park, Lakeview and Streeterville.

"The concept that we would be looking to grow with into the space would be more of a coffee slash pie shop concept that would give more options for people to have food," he said. "We would be considering doing some other savory dinner options. It wouldn't be strictly limited to coffee bar style business."

Weiss, who grew up in Rogers Park and attended Roycemore School in Evanston, opened Kickstand Espresso Bar in Lakeview in 2009 and became owner of Buena Park's Dollop two years ago. He opened a third cafe in Streeterville in January, and rebranded Kickstand as Dollop this week.

"My staff and I have worked hard to make the Dollop Cafes solid, neighborhood-focused places that are consistent and delicious," Weiss told Lakeview Patch.
