Evanston Company Competes for WSJ’s Startup of the Year

SwipeSense is among the 24 companies vying for the tlte.

Evanston-based SwipeSense, which makes a sensor-equipped device to encourage healthcare workers to keep their hands clean, is among the 24 companies vying for the title of Wall Street Journal’s Startup of the Year, according to a press release.

The series from WSJ Live, the newspaper’s online video platform, matches each competing company with global business leaders and influencers, and tracks their progress from startup to success over five months, then eliminates companies during various rounds.

While the series doesn’t consider votes when eliminating startups, as of 11 a.m. Thursday, SwipeSense received the most votes of confidence with 241 votes, according to the website.

SwipeSense CEO Mert Iseri founded a student group called Design for America with Malina while a student at Northwestern University and the group led to the creation of SwipeSense, according to the series' website.
