Closing Date Set For Evanston Dominick's

The Dominick's at 2748 Green Bay Rd. and 1910 Dempster St. will close before the New Year if the grocery store chain can't find a buyer.

If Dominick's can't find a buyer, the grocery store's two Evanston locations are slated to close Dec. 28, according to the city.

Evanston Mayor Elizabeth Tisdahl told residents at a town hall meeting Wednesday that city officials should know by Thanksgiving if there is a buyer for either store.

The city's two Dominick's stores are located at 2748 Green Bay Rd. and 1910 Dempster St. Another Dominick's frequented by Evanston residents is also located just over the border in Chicago, at 1763 W. Howard St.

Dominick's parent company, Safeway, announced in October that it was closing all 72 of its Chicago area stores. At least four of those were snapped up by Jewel, but the fate of the other stores is still unknown.
