Evanston Dominick's Stores To Be Sold

All Chicago area Dominick's stores are being sold off by their parent company, Safeway.

Written by Dan Lambert.

It appears that changes are coming for Evanston's two Dominick's stores.

The parent company, Safeway, wants to pull out of the Chicago market within the year, according to a press release. As competition from both higher-end and discount grocery stores mount, the chain has been losing its share of the market, the Chicago Tribune reports

There are currently 72 Dominick's stores in the Chicago area. In Evanston, Dominick's has one store at 2748 Green Bay Road and another at 1910 Dempster St.

The report indicates that the most likely outcome is that the existing stores would be bought up by several different chains and not one buyer.

Doesn't really surprise me regarding Dominick's business being down or slow . I have gone into the store on Dempster and there are no workers to be found any where in store when you need help . 2 yes I lie not I have picked up several things way past the due date & said wow this is bad ! Even took the item up to Customer Service to only come back week later to shop & find the same item back on the shelf & that's when I stopped shopping at Dominick's.

Nice people work there (on Dempster). I hope whoever buys them keeps the Dominick's workers on.
