First Northern Credit Union Expanding In Former BOA Space

Evanston's First Northern Credit Union has acquired the former Bank of America building at 1705 Sherman Ave.

Evanston’s First Northern Credit Union will be expanding into the former Bank of America location at 1705 Sherman Ave., according to a press release.

The credit union will be moving around the corner from 726 Clark St. into the larger location on Sherman in late 2013. First Northern has been open in Evanston since 2003 and has five other locations in the Chicago area

The Evanston location is expanding because its membership base has grown consistently over the past few years, according to the release.

“We’re excited about the success we have seen here in the Evanston community,” branch manager James Smith said in the release.  “With the expansion we will be able to serve our members on a larger scale, but still with the personal service they know and expect from us.”

Bank of America closed its branch at 1703 Sherman Ave. in February. The branch at 1336 Chicago Ave. remains open.
