Green Bay Whole Foods to Open Next Year

The demolition of the interior of the former Dominick’s is set to start in May.

The new Green Bay Road Whole Foods store is hoping to open in mid-2015 after a full interior demolition and redesign of the former Dominick’s space, according to an update from 7th Ward Alderman Jane Grover.

The store, at 2748 Green Bay Road, is one of a handful of former Dominick’s that Whole Foods is taking over in the Chicago area.

Grover says the store plans to include many sustainable design components, as well as a wine and cheese bar.

The demolition is scheduled to begin in May with a gut renovation starting in the fall, Grover said.

E.....i don't remember launching an invective or personal attack at you....which is precisely what you did to me...completely unprovoked. Go back and read your post...in this instance I had done nothing..I didn't invade the thread or make a comment to elicit a response. I was provoked by a spineless prick...and thought my response was rather muted. Your comment was aggressive, truculent, vitriolic and acerbic....without provocation from me. And you would expect me to repsond in what fashion. My own efforts are currently evaluating the potential to bring a retail firearms dealer, shooting range and bowling alley to the same space. The addition of a number of patrons to Evanston Plaza that legally own and carry firearms could be precisely what the neighborhood needs. A couple of dead stick up kids just might be a reality check that the community needs.

Let's return to the topic! If Whole Foods keeps expanding at this rate, they will over-expand and find themselves in financial trouble - as has happened with so many other business enterprises.

That's a big maybe given the specific location. If you draw....let's say a 1.5 mile radius around the Green Bay location, particularly the semi-circle facing north of the store that is a pretty good radius for that location to draw from.

I've been to Mariano's in Northfield and loved it. I'm still disappointed that the Green Bay Road Dominick's is going to be Whole Food$. I don't need snooty wine and cheese bars or off the edge brands I've never heard of, and I especially don't need outrageous prices. I'm excited about the Golf and Waukegan Mariano's. That's an easy drive from Evanston and I'll be going there often. Otherwise, I'll head for Jewel in Wilmette.

Jewel in Skokie (on Skokie Blvd/Gross Pt, just S of Golf) is bigger & seems better stocked than the Wilmette one. Also there's a large Produce World just across the street, w/great prices on fruits & vegetables & some other nice offerings. Totally agree that WF is too expensive. They might survive on business from nearby communities, but Evanston residents won't reap much benefit from having a third one. One more move that drives my food dollars out of Evanston.
