Lululemon Closing, Protein Bar Opening in Downtown Evanston

A new health food restaurant is opening at 1622 Sherman Ave., where Lululemon is closing its downtown Evanston store this August.

Lululemon is closing its downtown Evanston store on Aug. 28, according to Matt Matros, owner of Protein Bar, a health food restaurant that will replace Lululemon. Protein Bar has 12 locations around the Chicago area, and hopes to open its Evanston location at 1622 Sherman Ave. in March 2013, according to Matros. The menu includes burritos, bowls, salads, chilis and blended drinks, among other items. 

Less Than One Month to Trader Joe’s Opening
Trader Joe's is officially opening its doors on Friday, Sept. 6, 2013, at 1211 Chicago Ave. in Evanston, according to developer Scott Gendell. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily. Stripes were painted on the parking lot last week, and "trading hours" have appeared on the door. Landscaping is also popping up along Chicago Avenue, with rose bushes and trellises in place.

Kazoom Grand Opening Planned For Wednesday
Kazoom, a new Evanston store that buys and sells used children’s items, will hold a grand opening from 5 to 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, at 1940 Dempster St. “We are thrilled to be opening a new children’s resale store in Evanston, a community full of families looking for affordable options for kids’ clothes, infant gear, and toys,” owner Kristen White said in a press release. Hours are Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. and Saturdays from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. 

Demolition Underway Inside the Keg
Demolition is underway inside the former Keg of Evanston, and the property's developer says he expects to have a new tenant lined up in the next month or so. Evan Oliff, president of Preferred Development, said he could not give specifics on what might move in to replace the Keg, but said his company had developed several commercial properties in Chicago's Bucktown, Lincoln Park and Southport neighborhoods, as well as 44 Walgreens.

New Howard Street Restaurant Offers Healthy Fast Food
Aljo Jose and Meril Philip opened Big Twist, 1806 Howard St., this April. Both are doctors who met in medical school in Prague, then moved to the U.S. Philip said Big Twist makes burgers, rice bowls and shawarma with less processing, salt and sugar than a typical fast food restaurant.

The answer is Paramour Bungalow, a new home decor store that recently opened at 810 Dempster St. The gumball machine lamp is one of many quirky items for sale at this small store that is packed with things to look at. During a recent visit, Patch also noticed a yellow plastic deer head with silver antlers for your wall, a chair covered in faces and decorative roller skates.
