New Owner Plans $6M Renovation of Hilton Orrington

A new owner of the Hilton Orrington in downtown Evanston is planning $6 million worth of upgrades and renovation, according to a press release.

The Seattle-based Dow Hotel Company (DHC) announced Monday that it had acquired the 269-room hotel at 1710 Orrington Ave. in a joint venture with investment firm The Carlyle Group.

DHC owns 14 other hotels in the U.S. and three in the Chicago area, including the Marriott Suites Deerfield, the Embassy Suites Chicago O’Hare and the Doubletree Hotel O’Hare.

“Our first step will be to reach out to establish close ties with the Evanston community, Northwestern University and our other neighbors,” DHC president Murray Dow said in the release. “We will build on the hotel’s reputation as the North Shore’s preferred gathering place and will implement a dramatic enhancement to the food and beverage experience.”

The $6 million renovation will include upgrades to guest rooms, hallways, meeting rooms and a new lounge and coffee space, according to the release. It will be completed over the next 12 months.

Opening of Farmhouse Evanston at the southeast corner of the building will be a “cornerstone” of the renovations, according to the release. Owners of the sister eatery to Michelin-rated Farmhouse Chicago say the restaurant is set to open this summer and will focus on farm-to-table cuisine and local beer and wine.
