NorthShore University HealthSystem is laying off about 130 employees to cut costs, Crain's Chicago Business reports. The layoffs amount to 1 percent of the Evanston-based hospital's workforce, the publication reports.
NorthShore operates Evanston Hospital, Skokie Hospital, Glenbrook Hospital and Highland Park Hospital.
The layoffs follow a trend at hospitals across the nation, which are trying to cut costs in anticipation of revenue declines because of Obama's health care law, Crain's reports. NorthShore's layoffs follow early retirement offers made to about 300 employees two months ago.
