Sushi Spot Replacing Hota On Central

Coast Sushi Bar in Bucktown is planning to open a second location in Evanston at 2545 Prairie Ave., the former site of Hota Restaurant.

A Bucktown sushi restaurant is planning to open a second location off Central Street in Evanston, at the former site of Hota Restaurant.

Coast Sushi Bar is taking over the space at 2545 Prairie Ave., according to Paul Zalmezak, economic development coordinator for the city of Evanston.

Currently located at 2045 N. Damen Ave. in Chicago, Coast Sushi Bar’s menu includes a variety of nigiri, sashimi and maki dishes, as well as Asian soups, salads and seafood appetizers. The restaurant is also BYOB.

Chicago Magazine listed Coast Sushi Bar in a review of the best 30 restaurants in Chicago where you can get a great meal for under $30

“Straight-up sushi like a crispy salmon skin roll is fresh, tight, and gloriously cheap ($6),” wrote reviewer Jeff Ruby. “The sprawling menu’s pricier options, like the po’ boy roll—a lovely mess of whitefish tempura, unagi, masago, tempura crumbs, and eel sauce—are massive beasts.”

Serving contemporary American fare, Hota opened on Jan. 30 and closed abruptly in August. The Cook County Sheriff’s Office posted an eviction notice on the door on Sept. 4.

Jonadab Silva and his wife, Erin Silva Winston, operated Jacky's on Prairie, the original restaurant at the site, for two years before they reopened the restaurant as Hota last year.

Crews were already at work inside the space on Thursday. A representative of Coast Sushi Bar could not be immediately reached for comment.

Are Jonadab Silva and his wife, Erin Silva Winston, opening the new restaurant?

Good question, Millie. I'll see if I can find out.

Isn't this the fourth or fifth new restaurant at that location in 5 years
Jennifer Fisher (Editor) December 10, 2012 at 09:35 pm
I think Jacky's On Prairie opened there in 2008, followed by Hota and now this sushi place, so that's three in four years by my count. What was there before Jacky's On Prairie? I haven't been following it that long.

Jacky's Bistro closed then it became Jacky's then Hota and now the sushi.

Wow, so that's four in five years. Do you know what was there before Jacky's Bistro?

no idea wonder of Google does ;-)

That is true. Or the city has records, I'm sure.

Jacky's had a few iterations prior to Hota. There was Jacky's Bistro when Jacky Pluton was still involved and a Jacky's on Prairie after he left. Jacky's Bistro probably opened ~ 2000. Prior to that it was an Italian place called Michelini's. That's as far back as my knowledge goes.

The writer of the post is illiterate....that is clear. The Evanston Police, in general, do a greatRead More job in this community. There ought be a new category created specifically for membership in a gang that has demonstrated committed acts of violence...it goes back to the first smart thing which Mark Kirk ever said which was locking up each and every one of the 18.5K members of the Gangster Disciples. The second thing that can be done is that each and every law abiding Evanston resident that is legally able to do so should avail themselves of the right to obtain a new Illinois Concealed Carry Permit for a handgun. An armed society is a polite society.
