It can be argued that Chinese restaurants were some of the first eateries that challenged everyday Americans to begin sampling foreign, unfamiliar cuisines from places outside of Europe.
Today, it is easy to find a local restaurant serving food from India, Nepal, Japan, Thailand, Taiwan, the Middle East and Ethiopia, but many of these establishments would likely never have been able to flourish had Americans not first opened their minds and palates to Chinese fare.
So for this week’s Readers’ Choice, we’re asking locals the question: what is the best Chinese restaurant in Evanston?
Vote in the poll below, and then let people know why you prefer a given restaurant by leaving a review in our business directory. By sharing your knowledge of Evanston businesses, future readers will benefit from your wisdom when seeking advice on where to find the best local grub.
Here are this week’s nominees:
635 Chicago Ave.
3339 Golf Rd.
521 Davis St.
624 Davis St.
2426 Main St.
819 Noyes St.
1033 Davis St.
Phoenix Inn 608 Davis St.
2485 Howard St.
Distinguishing Chinese restaurants from Pan-Asian eateries with Chinese influences can be difficult, so if we forgot to include any restaurants on the list, let us know in the comments section and we’ll add them to the list.
Winners will be decided by a combination of poll votes and reviews on their business irectory page. Polls close at 9 a.m. Friday, and we'll announce the winner later that day. Official rules are on the PDF above.
Thanks for writing. 527 cafe serves mainly Taiwanese food so I decided not to include it. Best, Jordan
Thank you both for writing. I agree that votes alone don't tell the whole story, which is why Patch determines winners on both votes and reviews users leave in our business directory. We feel that this maintains a good balance between individual opinion and public consensus. One of the central reasons we host these online competitions is to remind people to share their opinions. Man residents have been living in Evanston so long that they know the city like the back of their hands, but others, like reader EvanstonDaily seems to want advice on what restaurant to try, and Patch would like to be a source that where can come to find that kind of information. Best, Jordan
