What's the Best Italian Restaurant in Evanston?

Vote for your favorite in our weekly Readers' Choice series.

Italian restaurants are ubiquitous in America and the food is woven into our culinary heritage. But that does not mean that all Italian eateries are equal.

Though Evanston is abundant with dining rooms serving fare from the Mediterranean nation, we want to know: what is the best Italian restaurant in Evanston?

Make sure to vote in the poll below and leave a review in our business directory of your favorite eatery so that others can benefit from your knowledge and experienced palate.

Here are this week's nominees:

– 1701 Maple Ave.
– 815 Chicago Ave.
– 1635 Chicago Ave.
– 1631 Chicago Ave.
– 828 Noyes St.
– 1566 Oak Ave.
– 1945 Central St.
– 706 Main St.
– 1571 Sherman Ave.

If we missed a spot, let us know and we'll add it to the list, but know that we purposely left off Italian eateries that serve primarily pizza, as pizzerias will do battle on Evanston Patch in the near future.

Winners will be decided by a combination of poll votes and reviews on their directory page. Polls close at 9 a.m. Friday and we'll announce the winner later that day. (Official rules are )

Next week we'll be looking for the best place in Evanston to get your taxes done.

Panino's may sell a lot of pizza, but it has a full menu, a bar, and great gelato. Food is available both for dining in and take out and, by the way, it's delicious. This is our go to for Italiian; it ought, at least, be included in the list.

Daves Italian Kitchen will NEVER let you down! if you're looking for homemade Italian food, reasonably priced and well proportioned...look no further than DAVES ITALIAN KITCHEN.

What about the new Central Street Cafe? There is quite a bit of Italian on their menu.

How did Noyes St. Cafe land on this list? It's Greek, as far as I can tell!

Hi Alexa, While I agree that Noyes Street Cafe does not fit snugly into this categorization, the restaurant does have seven pasta dishes on their menu, ranging from Pasta Alla Modena to Artichoke Penne. Thanks for writing. Jordan

If that is the only criteria (a few Italian dishes on the menu), then surely the Central Street Cafe qualifies. I ate there last night and their food is fabulous!

I'll have to head over that way and check it out sometime soon. Anything you recommend I try?

Jordan, last night I had a "special"--pork tenderloin medallions with au gratin potatoes and kale, not necessarily Italian, but I have had Italian fare there before. Everything I've eaten has been wonderful.

Thanks for the tip!
