Victim in Tuesday’s Skokie Shooting is Identified

Whole Foods Buying Evanston Dominick's, Sun-Times Reports

The paper reports that the shuttered Dominick's on Green Bay Road is one of 7 Whole Foods will take over in the Chicago area.

It's been rumored for months, but the Sun-Times says it's now official: Whole Foods will open a third Evanston store in the shuttered Dominick's on Green Bay Road.

The store is one of seven that Whole Foods will take over in the Chicago area, according to the article, which quoted a company spokeswoman saying it generally takes 12-15 months to open a new store.

Patch asked readers last month if Evanston needed a third Whole Foods. The response was mixed, with some ecstatic about the prospect and others saying they would like to see a new company move to town. And Columnist Christine Wolf mulled the question in her last column.

Before the Dominick's closed, one local photographer captured many of her favorite workers in this photo gallery.

I now regularly shop at Jewel and Produce World in Skokie and use Evanston stores on a much more limited basis. There is better parking, good selection and much better prices than Whole Foods.

Greg L: I do the same as you--Jewel & Produce World in Skokie. Thousands of dollars per yr. regrettably leaving town for more accessible, appealing &/or affordable options elsewhere. Evanston is losing a lot of revenue by not having a decent mid-priced grocery w/good selection of meat & produce in the NW part of town. Hopefully something of that sort will replace the Dominick's @Dodge & Dempster, or that will be another food desert. I'd love to see someplace like Produce World go in there.

What about a Cabelas in the Dempster-Dodge space so we can purchase firearms and ammo locally.....there certainly IS a need in Evanston.

Zoot they could use the empty restaurant space (Old China Buffet) fir Cabelas and the Dominick's location as a Shooting Range.
