FOUND RABBIT: Evanston, Foster Street

A friend of mine found someone's pet rabbit near Northwestern University on Foster Street. I'm currently caring for it. Seems to be in good health, very friendly toward people. If it's yours or you know the owner, please describe it to me and let me know how it came to be wandering in the cold at night and I'll try to get it back to you.

You could also have it butchered at one of the live poultry shops in Chicago. I've gotten fresh rabbits many times from Chicago Live Poultry on Western. I would think they could butcher it for you.

Why pay a butcher. After you kill the rabbit, hold it by the body and twist its head until it comes off. Then you can basically pop it out of its fur/skin. Now remember to check the organs to make sure it is not diseased, You can run a skewer through it and roast it over a campfire. Or you can use this recipe...it is similar to the way my Nanna used to cook it except we used bacon rather than pancetta. http://www.lidiasitaly.com/recipes/detail/1043 Bona Pasqua

Well....now you know how it feels when someone's dog is lost, and butchered by local Evanston residents for a meal.
