Nicor/ComEd Program Offers Free Installations of Energy-Saving Devices

Illinois utilities launch a new effort to reach smaller organizations with free energy efficiency installations.

Curious about your options for saving energy and water at your business, nonprofit, congregation or condominium building? ComEd and Nicor have launched a program to give your business free energy efficiency installations and detailed reports with next steps to consider. Participants will also receive discounts of up to 70% for the measures recommended in their report.

The Small Business Energy Savings program (or "SBES") is an effort to ensure more legislatively mandated utility incentive money gets out to smaller organizations. Make sure you get some of the money you've spent on gas and electricity back -- and then some -- by participating.

Free installations include low-flow faucet aerators, CFLs, prerinse spray valves and one of my personal favorites, Vending Misers: essentially, a motion sensor that attaches to your vending machine. When no one is around, it turns off the front panel lighting. The device will save you approximately $161 a year in electricity: Calculate for yourself on the manufacturer website.
