Missing Evanston Man, 80, Found in Chicago

80-year-old Carlos Rodriguez, who has Alzheimer's and diabetes, went missing from the 149 Callan Ave. in Evanston Saturday morning. Chicago Police found him at a local hospital Saturday afternoon.

Update, 11:20 p.m.

Chicago police found 80-year-old Carlos Rodriguez at an area hospital Saturday afternoon, according to a press release from the police department.

Family members and neighbors called on the public's assistance Saturday morning, after Rodriguez went missing from his home in the 100 block of Callan Ave. in Evanston.

Rodriguez, who suffers from Alzheimer's and diabetes, was sent to St. Francis Hospital in Evanston for treatment, according to neighbor Dan Coyne. 

"He is going to be alright," Coyne said in an e-mail to Patch, thanking local media, eighth ward Ald. Ann Rainey, the Evanston Police Department and neighbors who assisted in the search.

Update, 3:35 p.m.

The city issued a press release calling on the public's help in finding 80-year-old Carlos Rodriguez, who was last seen around 5:45 a.m. by family members at his home in the 100 block of Callan Avenue in Evanston.

Rodriguez only speaks Spanish and suffers from Alzheimer's disease, according to the release.

He is 5'9", weighs about 160 pounds and is mostly bald with some black hair, the release said. He has brown eyes, a mustache and a beard, and was last seen wearing blue striped pajama pants, a white t-shirt, and a plaid blue sweater.

"Anyone who believes they may have seen Mr. Rodriguez is asked to contact the Evanston Police at (847) 866-5000 or if outside Evanston, please call your local police," the release said.

Neighbor Dan Coyne, who is helping with the search, said the police department is reviewing any videocameras taken on the streets where he was last seen to help retrace his steps. All area hospitals have been notified.

Update, 1:30 p.m.

Neighbors report that a stranger saw 80-year-old Carlos Rodriguez around 9 a.m. at Howard and Clark, walking westbound on Howard and looking disoriented. They have yet to find Rodriguez, and anyone with information is asked to call 9-11.

Rodriguez has Alzheimer's and diabetes, lives in the 100 block of Callan Ave. in Evanston and was seen around 6 a.m. Saturday wearing pajama bottoms and a checkered shirt.
