Evanston Among Top 10 Cities with Greenest Commuters

About 21 percent of Evanston residents walk, bike or work from home, according to NerdWallet.

How environmentally friendly are Evanston commuters? The city was recently named No. 10 in NerdWallet’s list of cities with the greenest commuters, behind Cambridge, New York, Union City, Washington DC, Jersey City, Berkeley, San Francisco, Boston and Somerville but ahead of Chicago, which ranked No. 14.

Even though half of Evanston’s worker commute to work alone by car, the other 50 percent of residents use various commuting methods, such as walking, biking and public transportation. NerdWallet cites Evanston Climate Action Plan, which aims to reduce the city’s carbon emission, as the city’s commitment to sustainability.
