Evanston Couple Fights To Keep South Korean Baby

The South Korean government recently filed a motion to intervene in the Evanston's couple's adoption proceedings.

An Evanston couple is embroiled in a bitter legal struggle to adopt a 7-month-old girl and could be forced to surrender the South Korean baby as soon as Friday, Triblocal Evanston reported.

Jinshil and Christopher Duquet have been accused of circumventing South Korea’s adoption procedures, and the South Korean government filed a motion Thursday to intervene in the couple’s adoption proceedings, Chicago Tribune reported.

All sides agree that the Korean birth mother approves of the adoption, but the South Korean government says the girl should have had the opportunity to be adopted in Korea first, The Christian Science Monitor reported.
