@MayorEmanuel Author Sits Down With Stephen Colbert

Evanston resident, Dan Sinker appears on Comedy Central's 'The Colbert Report.'

Evanston resident, and @MayorEmanuel Twitter account, Dan Sinker, appeared on Comedy Central’s, , Tuesday night.

“Turns out not everyone on Twitter is who they say they are like @MayorEmanuel,” Stephen Colbert said before introducing Sinker to the set. Colbert tried to read aloud the tweets from @MayorEmanuel, but every other word was bleeped because of Sinker’s profanity-filled tweets.

Playing off of Sinker's job as a journalism professor at Columbia College, Colbert poked fun at the industry and the fact that @MayorEmanuel was a fictional account.

“Now, is teaching the kids how to be journalists, teaching them how to lie?" Colbert cracked.

Sinker and Colbert joked about how many people may have been fooled into thinking the real Rahm ran the account.

“If anyone did I would kind of question their sanity,” Sinker said.

The adventures of @MayorEmanuel ended up raising more than $12,000 for the writing organization. During the mayoral election, Rahm Emanuel promised $5,000 to the author’s charity of choice, if he or she came forward. As promised, Emanuel donated the money during his on-air meeting with Sinker and the donation was matched by the two WLS radio hosts and Causes.com.
