For Love of Liberty

In honor of Veterans' Day, EPL presents the acclaimed PBS documentary, For Love of Liberty, that documents the sacrifices and accomplishments of African-American service men and women.

In honor of Veterans’ Day, the Evanston Public Library staff invites community members of all ages to view the moving two-part documentary, For Love of Liberty, on the history of African Americans in the military. Both screenings are free and take place at the Main Library on Church Street between Orrington and Chicago Avenues.

Saturday, November 17 (part 1)
and Sunday, November 18 (part 2)

The acclaimed PBS documentary uses letters, diaries, speeches, news articles and military records to document and acknowledge the sacrifices and accomplishments of African-American service men and women since the earliest days of the republic. For Love of Liberty examines why, despite enormous injustice, these heroic men and women fought so valiantly for freedoms they themselves did not enjoy. Hosted by Colin Powell and Halle Berry, featuring Morgan Freeman, Bill Cosby, Ossie Davis, Ruby Dee, Danny Glover, Delroy Lindo, Angela Bassett, Courtney B. Vance, and Alfre Woodard.
