100th Anniversary Celebration at JCYS Camp Henry Horner

For over 100 summers, Jewish Council for Youth Services (JCYS) has provided a backdrop for fun on the shores of Wooster Lake.  On Sunday, July 20, 2014 at 5:30 pm, hundreds of former campers and counselors will be revisiting their youthful memories at Camp Henry Horner's 100th Anniversary Celebration in the northwest suburbs of Chicago (26710 W. Nippersink Road, Ingleside, IL  60041).

Camp Henry Horner traces its roots back to 1914, when JCYS was known as Young Men's Jewish Council.  During its first summer, just 35 boys attended overnight camp in two-week sessions.  Overnight tents eventually gave way to permanent cabins and today over 500 co-ed campers going into Kindergarten through 11th Grade enjoy one to eight-week sessions of day and overnight camp.  Alumni from as far away as Australia and Europe, and as close to home as Buffalo Grove and Highland Park, will travel back to see how camp has evolved over the years.

The evening festivities will feature a typical camp cookout and campfire, and alumni will share their memories, camp songs and the traditions they continue to keep even to this day.  Tickets are $35/adult and $14/child, and can be purchased online at www.jcys.org/CHHAlumni.

A free Family Day will precede the Alumni Celebration from 1 - 5 pm and allows families to explore all 180 acres of camp, enjoy the High Sierra Adventure Center complete with zipline, high and low ropes course and climbing wall, new boathouse outfitted with canoes and kayaks, and inflatable activities throughout the lake.

Alumni are encouraged to contact CHHAlumni@jcys.org or (847) 740-5010 for more information about the day or how they can participate in the day even if they are unable to make the event.
