Dia de los muertos Craftstravaganza

Saturday, November 2, 10am-4pm, Children's Room, Main Library

Joins us to celebrate and learn more about Dia de los muertos, the Day of the Dead, a celebration of passed loved ones observed in Latin American countries such as Mexico, Brazil, Guatemala and Ecuador. In most celebrations, friends and relatives gather to celebrate the dead by sharing their greatest memories. During the Dia de los muertos Craftstravaganza, event attendees can make their own muertos folk art--from sugar skulls, fun masks, to nichos (dioramas). The Mexican Ministry of Tourism and Culture will provide Aztec performers to demonstrate a drumming ceremony. To top off the celebration, altars (shrines) made by Evanstonians will be on display, competing for best in show. Event attendees will vote for the winner! Free and open to all ages.
