Dramatic Portrayal - American Lady: The Life of Susan Mary Alsop

At NSSC, Northfield Location:

Suzanne Hales, Dramatic Book Reviewer

Suzanne Hales portrays Susan Mary Alsop, an American aristocrat and a descendant of founding father John Jay. She knew everyone and brought together the movers and shakers, not just in the United States but the world. Raised in the U.S., she arrived in Paris on the heels of World War II to join her husband Bill Patten, a young diplomat. Susan was at the center of the social circles, dining with Winston Churchill, Duff Cooper (the British ambassador and the love of her life), Franklin Roosevelt, Greta Garbo, and many others. A year after Patten's death she married Joe Alsop, the renowned journalist, and moved to Georgetown. These were the golden years of John F. Kennedy's presidency and Susan Mary was dubbed 'the second lady of Camelot.' She hosted dinner parties that were the epitome of political power and social arrival.
