Community Corner

Educators' Open House

The YWCA Evanston/North Shore, in conjunction with the Illinois Holocaust Museum and Education Center, is bringing the national exhibit RACE: Are We So
Different?
to the Holocaust Museum.  The exhibit, which was created by the American Anthropological Association, examines the issue of race through three “lenses”: scientific/human variation, historic, and lived experience.  It is an interactive exhibit, providing opportunities for facilitated discussion while visiting the exhibit, and integration with various curriculum areas both before and after. The exhibit website is www.understandingrace.org.

Join us for an overview of the exhibit and to hear ideas that have been used by
teachers in other cities in terms of community programming, the exhibit’s
greatest value to schools and community groups.  Attending one of these Open
Houses allows you to learn more about the exhibit and network and collaborate
with teachers from other schools. Then, there is plenty of time in this school
year to plan with colleagues how best to use the Race exhibit as a catalyst for
meaningful programs in your school around the run of the exhibit, Oct 12,
2014-Jan 25, 2015.

Please RSVP if you will attend, which time works best for you, and if a colleague will be attending with you.  Space is limited, so please reserve your place soon by responding to this e-mail, or contacting:
