Five Things We Need to Know About Science: From DNA to Science Deniers
At North Shore Senior Center (NSSC), Nielsen Campus -Jim Kenney, Executive Director, Common Ground
At a time when scientific literacy is more important - and
sadly, rarer - than ever, this workshop will focus on several things that informed people need to know about science and its ever-deepening understanding of the universe. We'll talk about DNA and microbiology on the 21st-century cutting edge. We'll listen in on the excited buzz from the science of subatomics - the latest about the mysterious Higgs Boson. We'll share the latest reports from astrophysics and cosmology - from Mars to the Big Bang. We'll learn about the new certainty that the climatologists are bringing to their understanding of what's happening to our world. And we'll shake our heads
in puzzlement at the thriving industry (driven by extremist religion and politics) of science denial - the new Flat Earth cultism.
Thursday, 1/10 - 2/7, 5 sessions, 9:30am - 11:30am
