Foreign Policy & The Obama Administrationi: The Second Act

At NSSC, Nielsen Campus:

Arthur Cyr, Ph.D., Director, Clausen Center for World
Business, Carthage College

President Barack Obama's reelection to a second term in the
White House provides him freedom to act more boldly and independently, but this
observation also raises questions regarding both policy and personality.
Washington continues to be defined by intense partisan conflict regarding
spending, taxes, and policy priorities. Although Obama's leadership style has
not been defined by dramatic foreign policy departures, American Presidents
have made dramatic global moves after reelection. Also, public opinion polls
have shown that the Democrats are now more trusted than the Republicans on
defense and national security, a dramatic reversal of a long-term trend.
