Live, Laugh, Line Dance! The Benefit for Women & Cancer Program
It’s almost time to “Live, Laugh and Line Dance” and support treatments for low income women battling cancer.
On May 3, the Heartwood Foundation Women & Cancer Program hosts its annual benefit in Evanston. With food from David Borris of Hel’s Kitchen, hip hop and R & B line dancing taught by Ms. Ro and WWY, and fabulous auction and raffle items such as a one-week stay in a Martha's Vineyard vacation home, the evening will offer great fun for an important cause.
For the past decade, the Heartwood Foundation Women & Cancer Program has provided free integrative therapies across Chicagoland for women diagnosed with cancer. Participants who otherwise could not afford it receive acupuncture, massage, and psychotherapy sessions, and can also attend classes such as yoga, tai chi, meditation, and dance.

These services can alleviate fatigue, nausea, insomnia, neuropathy, and other side effects of cancer treatment. The program also provides emotional support, and can lessen feelings of loneliness, fear, and anxiety. Former Illinois Senator and breast cancer survivor Carol Ronen led the effort to create the Women & Cancer program in 2004 after benefitting from acupuncture treatments herself.
“Live, Laugh and Line Dance,” which begins at 6 p.m., will be held in the new Skylight Event Space at the Heartwood Center. Heartwood is located at 1818 Dempster Street in Evanston. Tickets are $50.
