Mitchell Museum: Talking Feathers

Free Kid's Craft Weekend with regular admission.

Every Saturday between 11:00am and noon, and every Sunday between 12:30 and 1:30, bring your children to our Kid's Craft Hour, free with regular admission. This week's craft: Talking Feathers

The Talking Feather is a symbol of democracy in many Native American cultures.  It is used to ensure that everyone has a chance to speak during meetings, and to cultivate a atmosphere of respect. Many other tribes use shells, stones, or sticks in the same way.  Talking feathers are decorated with beads, leather, and colored string.
